What's New at Next Step Fort Saskatchewan
Happy Chinese New Year and Welcome to the Year of the Monkey!
Posted on February 9th, 2016
Today we are celebrating Chinese New Year (also called the Lunar New Year) at Fort Saskatchewan Next Step. The Lunar New Year marks the passing of another 12 lunar cycles. It is celebrated in many Asian countries and by many people around the world. The start of a New Year is very significant as it is believed that the way your year begins will dictate how much good fortune you will have in the year to come. As a result, many traditions have arisen regarding the celebrations surrounding the New Year.
We will be celebrating by folding dumplings, which is a traditional New Year’s activity in Northern China. Since dumplings look similar to the gold ingots that had been used for money in the past, they are said to bring wealth and good fortune in the New Year. Folding dumplings is also a way for families to gather and spend time together. Although Chinese New Years have many different traditions and customs, they all revolve around the idea of spending time with family and friends. We hope that you have a happy and lucky Year of the Monkey!
